My Friend Johnny 26th June 2012
My friend is in the hospital.
He’s a lucky boy I think
with his new valve and smoothed artery
From the comfort of my warm office
with the dumping rain lovely on the roof
I reflect;
It is exciting living in a body
experiencing all it has to offer
roller coaster and smooth beach rides
(It’s different of course when it’s my body up for the experience -
but as I am reflecting him, not me, I shall continue…)
I like my friend. I like the lankiness of his limbs
and the way his hair
and sometimes beard
frame his face in silver now,
brown before
And the way his eyes are like buttons on a best teddy always bright,
welcoming, looking out from the warmth of his cave saying
how lovely to see you!
I was just putting on the jug or cracking a beer
And then he squeezes his welcome bear hug
engulfing me from his long arms
and all is right in the world
if it hadn’t been a moment before
I like his open positivity
his endless love for his family
I like it when he expresses his disapproval
and does not agree
I like his acceptance
He does not sweat the small stuff
He has his perspective button tuned on the right channel
I like my friend Johnny.
And I like to know him in this day and age when a
valve and wrapping is
'All Good Maintenance'
He is ours for much more future play.
A very pleasing state of events
